What’s Super Button Masher Extreme Turbo?
SBMET is a fighting game made in the Unreal Engine for the Imagine Cup hackathon over the course of a weekend with three other RIT students. There are only three button inputs and no movement, allowing players to focus solely on reading their opponent and reacting to their moves. Each attack only lasts a tenth of a second causing frenetic gameplay as players need to quickly react and switch between attacks to use the move that counters their opponent. At the end of the game, it shows a replay of the last few attacks in slow motion.
My Role – Designer/Programmer
For this project I served as a gameplay designer and also designed and implemented all of our UI and menu systems for the game. I helped to create the initial concept of the game, its combat design, the stats of the different characters, and its overall design as it evolved over the course of the project. I also created the level for the game in the Unreal Engine and performed some of the voice acting in the game.
